Although we work closely with many industry standards bodies, the OMTP is not one itself. Instead we perform a critical role in interpreting how standards fit into the pragmatic, consumer focussed objectives of our members. It can be a challenge for many companies to keep as involved in the standards world as they might wish; OMTP helps its members keep abreast of developments that may affect them.
We work closely with all the leading bodies feeding in our members’ requirements where necessary and acting as a valuable conduit for the flow of ideas and information. OMTP adopts appropriate standards into its recommendations wherever possible in order to aid defragmentation of standards across the industry. OMTP has strong links with organisations across the industry including W3C, Open Ajax Alliance, ETSI, GSMA, OMA, OMSI and TCG. In early 2007 OMTP announced a Memorandum of Understanding with the Korea Wireless Internet Standardization Forum (KWISF), creators of WIPI (Wireless Internet Platform for Interoperability).
